Richard Hutchinson

I started out with an MA in Mathematics from Oxford University.

I spent twenty-five years as a software engineer working in the defence, telecommunications, and law enforcement domains.

I learned how to write concisely and accurately for a variety of audiences, including engineers, management, and customers.

I also learned about all stages of software development using a wide variety of languages, platforms, and techniques, and about writing documents in LaTeX as well as with word processors.

I qualified as a proofreader in 2010, gaining a Pass With Distinction on the Basic Proofreading course run by the Publishing Training Centre.

I am now a freelance proofreader and copy-editor, and an Advanced Professional Member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders. I ensure that my skills remain current by attending training courses organised by the society and others. More details about me can be found in my SfEP Directory entry.
